I remember John so very well from grammar school. He and I were in a play in the 5th grade and we had to sing "she's a Grand Old Flag" as a duet. I was so nervous, but he was confident and brave.
John was a friend for years, and our moms and sisters were friends as well. We went through grade school, jr. and sr. high and on to the University of Oregon together. We used to commute back and forth to Eugene and had some harrowing moments driving that long road home to Piedmont for the holidays - including one trip, in a blinding storm, in his leaky convertible with only one working windshield wiper. We kept in contact even after we were both married and living at different ends of the state. He was a good friend and I will always miss him.
Jane Kidner Powell. I remember may fun times with John both at school and away from school. One funny rememberance is the may times is 9th & 10th grade when we paracticed kissing over our back fence so we would know how if the right person came along. I also rememver being in the music department with hm. He was a good person. I saw him a few times after High School but lost touch when I moved to San Diego. He will be missed at our gathering this year/
