Mary Dotson (Kirk)

We knew him first in kindergarten as Roddy later as Rod and Bud, but by any name he was always an important and much loved part of the class of 1960. He will be missed. Our condolences to his family.

Bud first came into my life in Junior High. All through  PHS I was struck by Bud's atheletic skills.  Bud managed to overcome personal challenges and support his family along with Mary showing courage and wisdom. While I saw little of Bud in his later years, he remained a strong memory and someone i always enjoyed talking to when we were together.  He will always remain a dear memory in my mind and heart .  Love and best wishes to Mary and family.

This is truly sad news.  Rod and I were never close friends, but I always liked him.  I particularly admired his athletic ability and his always quiet strength and mellow good humor.  I particularly remember when we were fellow "students" at a session of Sunday school at Piedmont Community Church.  We were in junior high school, I'm pretty sure.  I was sitting next to Bud, listening to the teacher.  Very quietly, like a ventriloquist, Bud was making some outrageously funny comments on the teacher's lesson.  I couldn't keep a straight face!  It almost got to the point where the teacher, staring at me in disgust, was about to ask me to leave the room, if I couldn't contain myself!  It was always a pleasure to see him and Mary at the reunions.  Deep sympathy and warmest regards to Mary and his family; I'll remember him always.  -Jim

I only knew Rod from our sophomore to senior years, and only in basketball. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family. Without question he was the most outstanding all round athelete in our class, as evidenced by his being named as such. I am sure we would have had a much more successful basketball season if he had been 100% healthy all season.

I am shocked and saddened to hear that Bud Church has passed away.

I did not know he was ill. The past few years I have been on the reunion committe along

with Bud.  He always looked so handsome and healthy.  He was tan and slim and said he was doing a lot of swimming.

Not you Bud.  Not our high school athlete, not our most handsome classmate, the one who always got the girl and ended up marrying the lovliest one of all.

Bud's birthday was always the day after mine, August 9th. I always thought of him on the 9th.

Farewell Bud and Happy Birthday to you.

I send my deepest condolences to Mary, his boys and grandchildren.
